“The best thing about Crossfit is the family you didn’t know you needed. My motivation to get out of bed is the people I know I will see when I get there.”

Background…

I am 46 years young and an Endocrine Nurse Practitioner at the VA. I am married to a artistic finish contractor named Josh and have two awesome girls Abby (12) and Avery (10). We are a family that loves Volleyball and Skiing.

When did you join CrossFit Stapleton and Why?

I believe I joined CFS in 2012. After my college basketball career I became a runner and quickly had knee problems. Despite multiple doctors telling me to quit running, I kept going knowing that someday I would need a knee replacement, and I was ok with that. I decided to try my hand at barefoot running and seriously injured my calf. I healed that injury on the beaches of Puerto Rico and contemplated my running future. I played a little sand volleyball while I was there and realized I had zero upper body strength. It was at this time that I decided I needed to try Crossfit.

What was your activity level like before CrossFit?

I have always been athletic and played basketball from a very young age. I went to the University of Southern Mississippi (yes, Brett Favre was the quarterback) on a Division 1 basketball scholarship (why I picked that school is a whole other story in itself). I redshirted after my freshman year and transferred back home to play for Colorado State Rams.

What do you like most about Crossfit Stapleton?

I am addicted to Crossfit bootcamp. I am very competitive and I love the workouts. They push me harder than running (and even basketball) ever did. When I go to Crossfit I don’t have to worry about my diet as much. I have never been able to maintain my weight so easily with any other workout.

How has this changed you in other parts of your life?

Crossfit has made me a better skier. The core strength I now have allows me to control my skis and ski any terrain I want. It is awesome to be 46 years old and ripping up the bumps!

What goals has crossfit helped you reach?

As I mentioned it really helped with achieving my weight goal. I don’t feel like I have to worry about every little calorie I eat. It also helped my upper body strength dramatically. I can now play volleyball with my kids and smash a serve or two.

Is there is really something unique about our program that if different from anything else out there?

The best thing about Crossfit is the family you didn’t know you needed. My motivation to get out of bed is the people I know I will see when I get there. We share stories between breaths and laugh (especially when Swig cans one!) all the time. We cheer each other on and push each other to be better, faster, stronger.

Anything else?

I just love it.
