Dave Kim “dk” grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, but spent most of his life on the east coast. He was a runner, wrestler, and lacrosse player at Phillips Exeter Academy and attended the Johns Hopkins University where he was a rower and captain of the wrestling team. His formal education in human movement and exercise began at university, where he studied Biomedical Engineering. He has been a high school teacher and coached cross country, wrestling, and crew. He has also managed local recreational and competitive rowing programs.
Dk was introduced to CrossFit, by a friend and colleague who was a colonel in the Marine Corps recently back from serving in Iraq. After emulating some of his friend’s strange but effective workouts, he was hooked. Moving to Denver in 2010, he received his personal training certification followed shortly after by the CrossFit Level 1 certification. Although still participating in the occasional marathon or triathlon, dk now spends more of his free time working on CrossFIt’s “general physical preparedness.”
