Background

I am a manufacturing engineer/programmer that likes to design and build all kinds of things out of metal.  My hobby is building cars & hotrods.  I grew up on a farm back in Nebraska and love living in the country.

When did you join CrossFit Stapleton and Why?

I joined CFS in November of 2013.  I knew a I needed to do something to get in shape and work on better habits.  When I was in high school I broke my neck wrestling.  Due to being out of shape and not having healthy habits, I had constant neck pain which affected all aspects of my life. After several months of debating on whether or not to try CrossFit and which box to join, I decided to come to CFS for a consultation.

What was your activity level like before CrossFit?

My activity before CrossFit was almost non-existent.  We would hike and bike a little bit but it wasn’t fun since we were new to Colorado and out of shape.

What do you like most about Crossfit Stapleton?

One of the biggest things I like about CFS is the people.  When I started I couldn’t finish a single workout.  It was tough personally for me to be so out of shape that I couldn’t finish.  Everyone at CFS was supportive and helpful.  Everyone would offer advice or encouragement to keep going.  To me, that feeling is priceless and what keeps you coming back.

How has this changed you in other parts of your life?

Before I broke my neck I was in a lot of sports and very competitive.  After breaking my neck, I was told a desk job with minimal physical activity was going to be my life.  I accepted this for 15 years.  After joining CFS and becoming healthier, I have found some of my competitive side again.  This has helped in all aspects of life including work.  I now have an outlet for stress and the confidence to try new things that I previously lost.

What goals has crossfit helped you reach?

Crossfit has helped me build all the damaged muscles in my neck which removed all the chronic pain.  This was the primary goal when I started.  Losing weight and building strength allow me to enjoy my car hobby as I no longer feel sore after spending a day in the garage on the weekends.

Is there is really something unique about our program that if different from anything else out there?

Based on my experience, the one thing I like about our programming from other boxes I have visited, is the amount of time spent on group warm up.  I feel that taking the time to properly warm up is very important for people that lead busy lives.  This coupled with the one on one conversations during the workout make a person feel comfortable when trying new movements.
