A note from a fellow CFS Athlete…
Hey Crossfit Stapleton,
Do it. Sign up. If you have ever participated in he Open you know it’s one of the most unique events that you’ll ever be a part of. It’s the CrossFit community at its best, and you get to do it with the entire gym lifting you up. We work together all year, building new skills, strength, friendships, and this is the one time of the year that we can truly express that in a very public way. As your fellow athlete Dave Rosenberg says, “For 99% of the participants around the world that participate it is not a competition, it’s for fun. It’s about doing something together.” (I may have embellished that quote)
It’s absolutely not about winning…for most of us. We’re not all going to Regionals or THE GAMES. It’s about all of us celebrating as a community what we all love to do. Sure, I like to compare and contrast with athletes in my own box and around the area, but the biggest benefit is the energy it builds within our own box. There is something different about the gym when the Open takes place. We all become more invested in one another. It’s an incredible feeling. I’m injured this year, and it kills me that I can’t lift any weight over my head, because if I could even minimally, I would sign up in a second. This year I’ll be there judging and supporting all of you like crazy. Sign up. Don’t watch on the sidelines, participate. Push yourself. Most of all have fun!!!
If you haven’t registered you have until 6pm tonight to do so…
Why not? Just do it.
“The Open is not about winning; it’s about playing … Like in traditional sports, the thrill is not in making it to the pros—too few do so. The thrill is in the ‘What if?’ It’s in the playing itself.”
